The Oil Spill Containment and Recovery vessel (OSCAR), which is stationed in Shannon-Foynes is held in joint ownership between Irish Coast Guard and Shannon Estuary Anti-pollution team (SEA-PT).

The 10m long vessel was inaugurated in April 2009 and is considered a fully integrated pollution control vessel which is easy to launch, road trailer transportable and can be rapidly deployed at a pollution incident.

The vessel’s adjustable bow allows it to manoeuvre through an oil slick, collecting oil within its hold where further separation is carried out, allowing a high oil capture rate.
