The University of Porto and the Portuguese Air Force Academy initiated a joint effort to research and develop UAS technologies under the PITVANT project.

Flight operations were carried out (Ota PoAF facilities, Sintra Air Base, Santa Cruz airfield, Espinho airfield) over a number of years and proved the capability of the system.  been based mainly in four airfields.

The PITVANT UAV operates on either battery or gasoline, weighs 12Kg and is capable of a range of up to 60km.
